German Economy Minister Katherina Reiche is set to arrive in Beijing on Wednesday for a two-day visit, amid calls from German businesses that she should push China to grant fairer competitive conditions.
The minister must clearly address the concrete implementation of a sustainable business environment in her discussions, said Oliver Oehms, head of the German Chamber of Commerce Abroad in North China.
Beyond the long-standing complaints about competitive disadvantages, Beijing’s export controls on raw materials such as rare earths could also become a topic of discussion during the trip.
Reiche plans to visit the southern Chinese industrial hub of Guangzhou on Thursday. The region is considered one of the driving forces behind China’s economic and export growth.
