Police in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia launched raids in eight cities targeting suspected far-right extremists early on Wednesday, security sources said.

The searches in Germany's most populous state are aimed at 10 suspects linked to a group known as "Young and Strong." All of them are German citizens, the sources said.

One of the suspects had already been placed in pre-trial detention in connection with a separate matter.
