Germany's largest news agency, dpa, achieved a solid result in 2025, a year marked by a focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and shifting media consumption, the agency announced at its shareholders' meeting in Hamburg on Tuesday.
Net annual profit rose to €1.6 million ($1.14 million), up from €1.4 million the previous year.
Group turnover fell slightly to €159.8 million, compared to €161.5 million in 2024. The core company, dpa GmbH, saw revenues grow to €107.4 million, up from €105.5 million the previous year.
Peter Kropsch, chief executive of dpa, said: "In an increasingly complex market environment - particularly in our core media market - dpa continues to demonstrate financial stability."
He said AI now had a significant impact on the media and communications industry. In response, dpa had adapted its products, strategies and the development of expertise, Kropsch noted.
"2025 can be described as a year of transformation," said dpa Editor-in-Chief Sven Gösmann.
"The agency has provided pioneering solutions to the challenges posed by artificial intelligence," he added, referring in particular to dpa's AI Research assistant, which was rolled out to clients at the beginning of 2025 and provides access to dpa's news content.
A key development last year was an AI pricing model governing the use of dpa content for the training of language models and ensuring a seamless chain of rights.
In addition, the Democracy News Alliance (DNA) was launched - a project with other news agencies aimed at covering the global development of democracy.
Dpa was founded in 1949 and is one of the world's leading independent news agencies, supplying media outlets, companies and organizations with editorial content including text, photos, videos, graphics, audio content and other formats.
