Germany and Poland are each offering 30,000 young people a free rail pass to explore the neighbouring country, the Federal Transport Ministry in Berlin said on Wednesday.
The German-Polish Friendship Passes are intended for people aged between 18 and 27. They cover a free outward and return journey in the holder's home country as well as seven flexible travel days in the neighbouring country.
Applications are set to open in September. The passes can then be used between November 2026 and October 2027.
The initiative is intended to mark the 35th anniversary of the German-Polish Neighbourhood Treaty, which was signed on June 17, 1991.
The EU has also previously offered young citizens free rail tickets to explore neighbouring countries.
