DirectD has partnered with AhaPay to offer Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) payment options across its retail stores in Malaysia, allowing shoppers to split eligible purchases into up to 12 instalments.
The service has been rolling out since Q2 2026 and is now available across DirectD’s entire retail network.
Instead of paying the full price of a smartphone or gadget upfront, eligible customers can choose an AhaPay payment plan that better suits their budget. The service is aimed at shoppers looking for more flexibility when upgrading their phones, tablets and other tech products.
Who is Ahapay?
AhaPay is operated by AhaRetail Solutions Sdn. Bhd. It is part of the Fingular Group, a Singapore-headquartered fintech holding. Fingular operates digital lending businesses in several emerging markets. Malaysia is one of its expansion markets after building consumer lending products elsewhere.
Malaysia already has around 7.5 million active BNPL users across online and offline channels as of the second half of 2025, according to figures cited by AhaPay.
DirectD CEO Amy Tan added that the partnership is intended to make smartphones and other technology more accessible, particularly for consumers who may have fewer traditional financing options.
What shoppers should know about BNPL
Before choosing BNPL, customers should still check the total amount payable, instalment schedule and any applicable fees rather than looking only at the monthly payment.
AhaPay currently offers payment plans ranging from 3 to 12 instalments at selected merchants. Some plans are fee-free, while others may carry customer fees depending on the plan and merchant.
Late payment fees may also apply if an instalment remains unpaid after the grace period.
So while splitting a new phone into smaller payments can make the purchase easier to manage, it is still credit — and shoppers should make sure the repayments comfortably fit their monthly budget.
