MARANG – GiatMARA will re-evaluate courses offered at its training centres to ensure they remain relevant and in line with the requirements of the current job market.

Its chairman Datuk Din Adam said the move was part of GiatMARA’s “rejuvenation” plan to become a quality technical and vocational training centre to meet the demands of the job market by supplying a skilled workforce, besides creating potential entrepreneurs.

“Rejuvenation means that we need to make changes to the training programme itself, based on the needs or demands of the current job market.

“I have asked the relevant parties to conduct studies and hold discussions to look at the existing training courses and re-evaluate them for improvements or changes,” he said when met during his working visit to the Marang GiatMARA Skills Training Centre here today.

Earlier, he also visited the Kuala Telemong GiatMARA Skills Training Centre in Hulu Terengganu, accompanied by Terengganu GiatMARA director Majid Ahmad.

Meanwhile, Din said he had also asked the state GiatMARA to identify the specific job demands in its respective areas to suit the courses or training that could be offered.

He said, for example, that given the oil and gas industry in Terengganu, the 10 training centres in the state should increase the number of courses related to the industry..

“I understand that a course specific to the oil and gas industry will cost a lot of money because you need various expertise, instruments, and so on.

“But we try to focus on things that are interrelated, such as ancillary services to the industry,” he said, adding that as a community-friendly training institution, GiatMARA should establish closer ties with the local community through various activities and events. – Bernama, August 30, 2022
