When people think about the FIFA World Cup, the first things that come to mind are usually the same things: incredible goals, football superstars, dramatic comebacks, and the team lifting the trophy at the end. But sometimes, the most unforgettable moments do not happen on the pitch because football fans are honestly a different breed. They can turn a normal match into a full-blown entertainment show. During the FIFA World Cup 2026, some fans became so memorable that they almost deserved their own trophy.
Maybe FIFA should introduce a “Best Fan Performance” award haha.
1. The Japanese Fan Who Accidentally Entered the “Enemy Zone
Imagine spending thousands of dollars travelling overseas to support your national team, proudly wearing your Japan jersey, and preparing yourself to scream every time your team attacks.
Then you arrive at your seat…and realise something is very wrong.
“Wait… why is everyone wearing yellow?”
Japanese streamer Gamix experienced every football fan’s nightmare when he accidentally purchased a ticket in the Brazil supporters’ section. Instead of sitting together with Japan fans wearing blue, he found himself surrounded by a sea of Brazilian supporters in their famous yellow jerseys. To make the scene even funnier, Gamix arrived wearing Japan’s blue jersey underneath a traditional Japanese haori, making him stand out like a “rare Pokémon” in a crowd full of Brazil fans (Source: Must Share News). Imagine being the only person cheering for the other side while thousands of people around you are celebrating every Brazilian moment. The pressure alone deserves a trophy.

2. Lamine Yamal's Little Brother, Keyne Became Spain's Cutest Star
Lamine Yamal has been one of Spain’s biggest stars, dazzling fans with his football skills and becoming one of the most talked-about players of the tournament. But surprisingly, his strongest “rival” was not another footballer. It was his own three-year-old half-brother, Keyne (Source: The Athletic).
With his adorable expressions and playful reactions, Keyne quickly became a viral sensation online. That innocent but hilarious look was turned into memes by fans, and suddenly everyone was talking about him.

3. Merlin the Duck: Mexico’s Most Unexpected World Cup “Ambassador”

Every FIFA World Cup has that one unexpected character who somehow steals everyone’s attention. Sometimes it is a football superstar. Sometimes it is a passionate fan. And sometimes… it is a duck wearing a football jersey.
Meet Merlin, Mexico’s most unexpected World Cup “ambassador”.
Merlin, a family pet duck who has long been a familiar sight on the streets of Mexico City, became an internet sensation after Mexico’s opening match against South Africa. After Mexico celebrated their 2-0 victory, Merlin was spotted waddling around the famous Reforma Avenue wearing the Mexican national team jersey and the best part? He was also wearing his own tiny pair of custom socks. People even gathered in Mexico City hoping to meet him and take photos with the country’s most famous animal supporter (Source: Today).
4. Norway Players and Fans Turned Into Vikings After Beating Brazil

Norway had a different idea. They became Vikings.
After Norway’s victory over Brazil in the FIFA World Cup, the players and fans celebrated with their famous “Viking Row”, a powerful chant where everyone moves together like they are rowing a giant Viking ship. The scene was something straight out of a movie.
Players sat on the pitch while captain Martin Odegaard led the celebration with a drum, as the team moved their arms together in perfect rhythm. Meanwhile, thousands of Norwegian supporters joined in from the stands, creating a sea of fans rowing together (Source: The Business Times). For a moment, it did not feel like a football stadium. It felt like a Viking army preparing to sail across the ocean.
5. Japanese Fans Cleaned the Stadium After the Match

While many fans leave immediately after the final whistle, Japanese supporters stayed behind for a different reason to clean the stadium. After Japan’s 2–2 draw against the Netherlands, fans were seen picking up rubbish from their seats and putting them into bags before leaving (Source: The Statesman). They simply wanted to leave the stadium clean and show respect to the host country. Japan may not have won the match, but their fans definitely won respect.
At the end of every World Cup, people remember the champions, the trophies and the biggest goals. But sometimes, the moments that stay with us are not found on the scoreboard. Football is not only about 22 players chasing one ball. Sometimes, the fans are the ones who create the magic.
