I get it.
Some of you may not watch football.
You may not follow transfer windows...
Or post match analyses...
Or pre-season fixtures.
Or even stress-eating 2 packets of Indomie at 4 in the morning,
while whispering "it's just a game" to no one.
But maybe you should try it once… at least.
Because football.. beneath all the noise, is just a mirror.
Reflecting how people lead,
how teams function,
and how belief holds under pressure.
It's a study in leadership:
Where charisma, clarity and calm heads are tested weekly.
It's a lesson in teamwork:
Where talent alone means nothing without trust.
It's Pressure Management:
Where cameras are constantly rolling and millions are watching, judging.
It teaches patience.
(Ask any fan stuck in a decade-long rebuild)
It teaches resilience.
("I get knocked down, but I get up again!" and then quietly hum that 90s anthem in your head)
It teaches loyalty.
(Manchester United fans: ageing drastically… celebrating rarely… leaving? Never! )
And yes... you'd probably been told this more than you care to remember: “it's just a game, lah…”
But it's also a masterclass in human behavior, motivation, strategy and belief.
If you want to understand people?
Watch what they do when their team's 2-0 down.
If you want to understand culture?
Look at the chants, the rivalries, the rituals that somehow bind total strangers.
If you want to understand leadership?
See who they pass the ball to under pressure.
No self-help book will teach you that way.
But 90 minutes of football just might.
So no, you don't have to love the game.
But if you're curious about what makes people tick...
Football might already be teaching you more than you would realize.
(Also, no. I'm not saying all this because my team finished 15th once. But also... maybe a little bit.)
And if you've ever defended an idea no one believed in or stayed loyal to a longshot or ultimately stress-ate through failure...
chances are, you're more of a football fan than you would think.
