The FIFA World Cup has been held in the United States only once before, in 1994.

Coincidentally, that was the year Brazil lifted the trophy, defeating Italy in a dramatic penalty shootout after a goalless 120-minute final. The victory secured Brazil's fourth World Cup title and further cemented their status as one of football's greatest nations.

Now, 32 years later, the World Cup returns to North America, with the United States, Canada, and Mexico co-hosting the 2026 tournament. Naturally, many Brazilian fans are wondering whether history could repeat itself.

One of the biggest talking points surrounding Brazil is the appointment of legendary Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti. Widely regarded as one of the most successful managers in football history, Ancelotti has won multiple UEFA Champions League titles with Real Madrid and is renowned for his ability to manage elite players, adapt tactically, and remain calm under pressure.

His arrival comes at an interesting time. Unlike previous World Cup cycles, Brazil are not viewed by many observers as the overwhelming favourites. Much of the spotlight has shifted to teams such as Argentina, France, Spain, and Portugal. As a result, Brazil may enter the tournament with less pressure and fewer expectations than in past editions.

That could work in their favour.

Historically, Brazil have often been at their best when they combine exceptional talent with strong team chemistry rather than relying solely on individual brilliance. The current squad still possesses world-class quality, with players competing at the highest level across Europe. More importantly, Ancelotti's experience could provide the leadership and stability needed in a pressure-filled tournament environment.

For football fans eagerly anticipating the tournament, the FIFA World Cup 2026 will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. In Malaysia, the tournament will be available through RTM and Unifi TV, while Astro has confirmed that it will not broadcast the competition on Astro, NJOI, or Sooka.

Another factor worth considering is the unique nature of the 2026 World Cup. With matches spread across three host nations, teams will face long travel distances, different climates, and varying playing conditions. Squad depth, rotation, adaptability, and tournament management may prove just as important as individual talent. These are areas in which experienced teams and coaches could gain a significant advantage.

Of course, history alone does not win football matches. The fact that Brazil won the World Cup in the United States in 1994 guarantees nothing in 2026. Every tournament writes its own story.

Yet football fans love narratives and coincidences. A World Cup returning to North America. A legendary Italian coach leading Brazil. A nation chasing its long-awaited sixth star after more than two decades of waiting.

Could the region that witnessed Brazil's fourth World Cup triumph also be the place where they finally capture their sixth?

Only time will tell. But if history has taught us anything, it is that writing off Brazil is often a dangerous mistake.
