Newcastle United's transformation this season is the result of manager Eddie Howe's work on the tactics board.

That is the opinion of club legend David Ginola, who spoke after Newcastle reached the Carabao Cup final.

The Magpies defeated Southampton over two legs to reach the showpiece event at Wembley, where they will play Manchester United.

I was watching some games from Newcastle (in previous years) and I never saw that (tactical awareness)," Ginola told Sky Sports.

There was always a huge gap in the middle of the park from the forwards and the midfielders.

Now they play as a block, as a team, and that makes the entire difference."

We talked about the spirit and I think what makes them play in those sort of situations is the spirit. They (the players) know each other really well.

They like each other, they share things together, so on the football pitch we can see (that). We can feel the relationship between them is very easy. The second goal is the perfect example."
