A Florida man said he accidentally shot his wife and 4-year-old daughter at their home in Deltona on Saturday morning.
The man told police that he was trying to clear his handgun before going to a shooting range when it accidentally discharged just before 10 a.m. on Saturday, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
A single gunshot struck both victims, hitting the mother in the leg and the young girl in the chest and arm.
Emergency responders treated both victims at the scene before airlifting the daughter to an Orlando hospital and taking the mother to a local facility.
The Volusia Sheriff's Office stated that evidence supports an accidental shooting, and no criminal charges have been filed.
