Girl among held for cable theft

KENINGAU: Police arrested two individuals, including a teenage girl, in connection with the theft of cables belonging to Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) in the district, involving estimated losses of RM30,000.

District Police Chief Supt Yampil Anak Garai said the incident came to light on 30 July at about 4pm when a 33-year-old SESB technical assistant received information from villagers about two suspicious vehicles in the Kampung Maliloa area along Jalan Sook.

The complainant and his colleagues rushed to the location and subsequently gave chase to a Toyota Hilux Vigo before lodging a police report at Sook Police Station at 6.53pm for further action.

The case is being classified and investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code by Investigating Officer Sgt Carolyn James.

Acting on information and intelligence, a team of police personnel from Tambunan Police Station, led by Sub-Inspector Thedius Ungoh, raided P&P Inn in Tambunan at about 10.30am on Tuesday.

During the operation, police arrested two suspects – a 25-year-old Filipino man identified as Razman and a 16-year-old local teenage girl of Kadazan descent from Kampung Mangi Pangi, Tambunan.

Police also seized a black Perodua Aruz and its vehicle keys, with further checks finding that the vehicle was using a false registration number, JTJ 8298.

Initial investigations found that both suspects admitted to being involved in the cable theft case under investigation, with the suspects and seized items taken to the Keningau District Police Headquarters for further action.

Police will also apply for a remand order against both suspects under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code at the court.
