TAWAU: The body of a girl said to be about five-year-old was found washed up on the beach along Jalan Persisiran on Sunday afternoon.
Tawau Fire and Rescue Department Station Chief Jemishin Ujin said his team used a rope and a body bag to retrieve the body.
“Our team also waded through mud three feet deep to retrieve the child’s body before handing it over to the police for further action,” he said.
Jemishin said they acted following a call for help to retrieve the body from the Tawau Police at 2.53pm.
A team of five officers and members in a Toyota Vigo utility vehicle were deployed to the location.
“The operation involving 13 officers and police members ended at 3.16pm,” he said.
Tawau Police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin meanwhile said his side is still conducting further investigations.
