Former Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given has sung the praises of Ederson.

Given feels Ederson's passing game has been a key contributer to City's title success in recent years.

He told the Manchester Evening News: "When I played, you would go back to the 'keeper as a last resort and my job would be to kick it as far away from the goal as possible. I would have loved to have played when the ball came back to me and the centre-backs were dropping off and two midfielders were dropping between them with high full-backs.

"It takes a skill but I just used to see numbers running away from me when I got the ball. I've had a few groin operations because I was told to launch it as far away as possible.

"The game has changed so much and moved on so much. Goalkeepers of yesteryear would never be mentioned when it comes to a possession-based football team but Ederson is a huge part of everything Pep does and I don't see anyone better than him with the ball at his feet.

"We've always said in the past you can't win anything without a brilliant goalkeeper and he's a huge part of why they've won so much.

"You can be as good on the ball as Ederson is and no good with your hands. The most important thing in my opinion is still the fundamentals that include shot-stopping, commanding the box and the basics. Ederson has all those in abundance.

"What Ederson did in the Champions League final will be remembered with City fans as well because they were huge important saves to keep the score at 1-0. His goalkeeping is improving all the time, he's a top goalkeeper."
