Kota Kinabalu: Tired of seeing the abandoned Maybank premises situated in Gaya Street featured in numerous photo backdrops, Enley Wong decided to photograph the various banks along the street.
“I never thought I would be a trendsetter,” said Enley, 33, a digital creator from Pitas.
“It was amusing to see a closed building attract so much attention,” he said, referring to Maybank.
“Walking along Gaya Street, I realised there were so many banks in the area. So, I told my wife, why stop at Maybank when we can highlight them all?”

The only ones he missed were AgroBank and Kuwait Finance House, each located at the far ends of the street.
“Taking these photos wasn’t easy. First, the banks are on a busy street; second, there were many onlookers, both locals and tourists; and third, their laughter made it hard for me to keep a straight face,” he said.
Enley posted the photos on Facebook with the caption: “Antara bank sayalah ketua kampung” (Among the banks, I am the village head).
The post went viral, garnering 5,500 shares and over a thousand comments with 3,800 reactions.
He also recounted receiving a call from the banks. “I got excited, thinking they might want to make me a bank ambassador or offer me a job,” he said.
However, the bank personnel reminded him to settle his car’s monthly instalment.
