Actress and host Gladys Reyes has made her recording debut with “Primera Kontrabida,” a novelty pop song inspired by the villainous characters she has portrayed throughout her career.
The song draws from Reyes’ reputation for playing antagonists, while its lyrics also point to forms of wrongdoing outside fiction, including dishonesty, manipulation and greed.
StarPop, the record label, previously teased the release with photos of some of Reyes’ notable villain roles, including Betsy in “Ang Dalawang Mrs. Reyes,” Mayet in “Ang the Breadwinner Is...,” Salve in “Here Comes the Groom” and Clara in “Mara Clara.”
Reyes first performed “Primera Kontrabida” live at the “Primera Kontrabida Sings” event on Aug. 1 at Riser Lounge.
The song was composed by Jonathan Manalo, head of ABS-CBN Music’s creatives, content and operations. Manalo also co-produced the track with StarPop label head Roque “Rox” Santos.
“Primera Kontrabida” is now available on music streaming platforms.
