The great Glastonbury Festival clean-up is underway as hundreds of workers help to restore the site at Worthy Farm.

The festival’s clean-up team began picking up thousands of discarded items including paper cups and food containers as festival-goers began to make their way home, leaving the Somerset grounds in a steady stream.

Cleaners tackled over-flowing bins and big items such as camping chairs and blow-up mattresses, as well as slippers, flip-flops and shopping bags.

Glastonbury will not return in 2026, as the festival enters a fallow year to give the ground time to recover before the next event takes place in 2027.

Organiser Emily Eavis told the on-site newspaper, Glastonbury Free Press, she had a “huge list of things” to improve the festival ahead of its next iteration.

Meanwhile, the row over controversial performances by punk band Bob Vylan and the Irish hip-hop trio Kneecap continues.

A major clean-up operation has begun at Glastonbury Festival to return the site from a pop-up city of 200,000 music fans to a Somerset dairy farm.

The festival’s clean-up team began picking up thousands of discarded items including paper cups and food containers as festival-goers began to make their way home, leaving the festival in a steady stream.

Cleaners tackled over-flowing bins and big items such as camping chairs and blow-up mattresses, as well as slippers, flip-flops and shopping bags.

It’s hard to find fault in Morissette’s pride here: her lyrics raised a generation, giving voice to feelings that many of us possess but tend to lay dormant, says Adam White.

Kneecap are the perfect Glastonbury band – the political controversy is proof

Monday 30 June 2025 19:00

The Irish trio’s appearance has, due to political interference, led to an unexpected referendum on the festival’s soul. But, writes Adam White, their anarchy feels historically in keeping with what Glastonbury represents.

Charli XCX responds to ‘boomer’ criticism of her Glastonbury set

Charli XCX has addressed accusations that she’s a “fraud” following backlash aimed at her Glastonbury Festival performance.

The 32-year-old singer, who created the Brat cultural phenomenon with the release of her so-named sixth studio album, has openly admitted she uses Auto-Tune when recording and performing her music.

Yet, throughout her performance at Worthy Farm, many viewers watching the BBC’s coverage of Glastonbury at home slammed the singer for using the software – and for her style of dancing.

In response to the vitriol, Charli wrote on X/Twitter: “like the idea that singing with deliberate autotune makes you a fraud or that not having a traditional band suddenly means you must not be a “real artist” is like, the most boring take ever. yawn sorry just fell asleep xx”

Bob Vylan have US visas revoked

Lydia Spencer-Elliott

Bob Vylan have had their US visas revoked ahead of a tour later this year.

The US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau has said this is because of the band’s “hateful tirade at Glastonbury”.

It comes after the band’s controversial set at Worthy Farm, which saw them lead the crowd in an anti-IDF chant.

Glastonbury Festival organisers said they were “appalled’’ by the comment, adding that they “very much crossed a line”. Meanwhile, police are currently assessing Glastonbury footage to decide whether any offences may have been committed.

The Prodigy receive rave reviews for ‘electrifying’ Glastonbury performance dedicated to Keith Flint

Monday 30 June 2025 16:00

,

Greg Evans

On Sunday (29 June), the group paid a heartfelt tribute to frontman and founder Keith Flint, who died in 2019, with a special edition of their hit “Firestarter” remixed with Flint’s voice.

It marked the first time the band has performed at the Worthy Farm music festival since 2009, having first performed there in 1995 at the peak of their commercial success.

Performing on the festival’s Other stage, The Prodigy, led by Maxim (Keith Andrew Palmer) alongside musicians Liam Howlett, Rob Holliday and Leo Crabtree, stunned viewers and festivalgoers with their high-energy set covering decades of hits including “Omen”, “Light Up the Sky”, and the controversial “Smack My B***”.

“The Prodigy. One of the most electrifying, unhinged and incredible bands I’ve ever seen live,” wrote one fan on X/Twitter. “This return to Glastonbury is off the charts. That’s what a festival headliner looks like.”

Bob Vylan have been “dropped by their agents” after their controversial Glastonbury set, which saw them lead the crowd in an anti-IDF chant.

Glastonbury Festival organisers said they were “appalled’’ by the comment, adding that they “very much crossed a line”. Meanwhile, police are currently assessing Glastonbury footage to decide whether any offences may have been committed.

It’s now been reported that United Talent Agency (UTA) have dropped the band over the backlash. The agency appear to have scrubbed the act from their official website. The Independent has contacted UTA for comment.

Olivia Rodrigo is about to take to the stage...

Sunday 29 June 2025 21:40

,

Roisin O'Connor

In just over five minutes, pop star Olivia Rodrigo will play the closing headline set on the Pyramid Stage. I’m SO excited to see this - a few of my brilliant colleagues on-site have lamented the lack of surprise guest appearances during major sets (no Lorde or Billie Eilish for Charli XCX? Rude), but I have high hopes for Rodrigo. My dream would be for her to bring out Elvis Costello, who defended her after she was accused of copying his classic track “Pump It Up” for her single “Brutal”. A mash-up of the two would be bloody brilliant.

Other guesses? Maybe Harry Styles, who’s been lurking around Worthy Farm all weekend. But ideally, given her rock’n’roll outlook, we’d see some veterans join her - I’m talking Patti Smith, Chrissie Hynde, Mick Jagger...

Wolf Alice review, Other Stage - ★★★★☆

Sunday 29 June 2025 21:02

,

Kate Solomon

A huge moment for London’s favourite indie darlings Wolf Alice in the last of the Glastonbury sunshine. Since they signed to a major label for their forthcoming album, The Clearing, the styling, sound and energy of the band has had a leg up.

Has frontwoman Ellie Rowsell’s been having lessons in frontwomaning? She’s electric as she strikes a pose with a megaphone, belts out the rockier songs like she’s furious at you specifically and even as she takes a tearful second during 2021 fave “How Can I Make It Ok?” to process the size of the crowd (massive) and the moment (huge).

Wolf Alice shine on their ballads – the rockier songs come with a lot of energy but they lack something the slower ones effortlessly have. But the band clearly understood the Glastonbury assignment and delivered a set brimming with star power.

Thoughts on Kae Tempest's blistering set

Sunday 29 June 2025 20:32

,

Ellie Harrison

If you missed Kae Tempest this evening, stop what you are doing and catch up on iPlayer now. The south London rapper was like a coiled spring on The Park Stage, pouncing on topics from mental health to the wealth gap to gentrification to grief.

Their 2019 hit “People’s Faces” always delivers, and cameras duly cut to emotional fans hugging in the crowd. But tonight it was all about their new era. Tempest's forthcoming album Self Titled is out next month, but fans at Worthy Farm already knew every word to the singles dropped in recent weeks, from the explosive, staccato “Diagnoses” to the euphoric “Statue in the Square”.

Tempest ended their set with the latter followed by “Know Yourself”, ripping their vest off to show the crowd their top surgery and spit beautiful bars, into a shaking mic, about the trans experience. Tears likely. Goosebumps inevitable.

Back to Noah Kahan...

Sunday 29 June 2025 20:12

Roisin O'Connor

I have very mixed feelings about Wolf Alice - I absolutely adored their ferocious third album - but I’ve switched back over to Noah whose singer-songwriter strumming feels like the perfect vibe for Sunday (before Olivia Rodrigo blasts away any residual hangovers). He’s brought out Laufey as a special guest for “Call Your Mom”, which is lovely.

Glastonbury highlights from our on-site team

Livi Petter: “Highlight was absolutely singing (screaming_ along to all of the words of Gracie Abrams’ ‘That’s So True’ at the Other Stage, even if I lost my voice doing so. That and the veggie burger I found at 4pm yesterday near the Park Stage when I realised I had been starving for hours. And possibly the bottle of water I drank this morning / the cold-tap shower I had last night before Charli.”

Hannah Ewens: “For me the highlight was being reminded that the UK and Ireland have the most exciting and crucially interesting pop artists right now: CMAT, The 1975 and Charli across one weekend. I think being able to be there during the Charli/The 1975 double bill will be something to speak of in years to come: ‘I was there when Charli ended Brat Summer with the burning flag and rememer when she just went solo onstage’, and then The 1975 headlining.

“My lowlight was that I just wished more artists had fun with duets and guests. It didn’t feel like the most thrilling year for those never-to-be-seen-again moments, which Glasto is so special for.”

(Adam White is outraged to learn that Lorde was in fact backstage when Charli sang “Girl, So Confusing”, which they duetted on for her remixed Brat album.)

Kate Solomon: “My highlights are JADE absolutely ascending at Woodsies yesterday, and Alanis Morissette on Pyramid which, despite me being on my own weaving through the crowd trying to find somewhere that wasn’t a nightmare, moved me to tears at deeply unexpected moments (”You Oughta Know”???). That and the big iicon head.”
