KUALA LUMPUR – OpenAI’s ChatGPT experienced widespread technical disruptions on Tuesday afternoon, leaving users across multiple countries unable to access the popular AI chatbot.

Reports of service failures began surfacing around 4pm local time, with outage tracking platform DownDetector logging over 1,350 complaints at its peak.

Affected users encountered error messages such as "too many concurrent requests" and "A network error occurred," sparking frustration across various online communities.

OpenAI acknowledged the issue, stating that "some users are experiencing elevated error rates and latency across the listed services," and confirmed that an investigation was underway.

The outage also impacted other OpenAI services, including the text-to-video generation tool Sora and various AI APIs, further amplifying the disruption.

The scale of the failure was notable, with significant user complaints reported in India, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

This is not the first time OpenAI has faced technical difficulties—similar outages occurred earlier this year, notably in April when surging demand for a new image-generation feature overwhelmed the system.

OpenAI has yet to confirm when full service will resume, but its technical team is working to resolve the issue swiftly. - June 10, 2025
