KINABATANGAN: About 50 delegates from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Malaysia visited the Sungai Pin Conservation Area (SPnCA) under the Global NISCOPS Learning Programme to witness Sabah’s sustainable palm oil practices.
Organised by IDH, The Sustainable Trade Initiative and hosted by Sawit Kinabalu Group (SKG), the two-day visit highlighted SPnCA’s role in balancing oil palm development with biodiversity and community livelihoods.
SKG Green CEO Philipa Datuk Wilfred Mojilis said the RM9.8 million project, launched in 2022, reflects SKG’s commitment to responsible production that coexists harmoniously with nature.
Under NISCOPS 2, RM1 million has been allocated for project implementation in 2025.
IDH Malaysia head Allie Subramanian said the initiative helps smallholders produce deforestation-free, EUDR-compliant palm oil while building climate resilience.
Delegates also took part in a river cruise to observe conservation efforts along Sungai Pin, a model for sustainable land management integrating nature protection and community participation.
NISCOPS 2, launched in January 2025, builds on a previous phase that trained over 20,000 smallholders nationwide, supporting Malaysia’s commitments under the Paris Agreement and UN Sustainable Development Goals.
