THE global energy crisis that followed the war between Israel, the United States (US) and Iran may take three to five years to recover.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that the period was personally announced by the Emir of Qatar based on the damage to gas operations that will take a long time to fully recover.
"This is a result of the actions initiated by Israel, supported by America, and its impact on the entire Gulf country and the world economy.
"Even if the war ends tomorrow, according to the Emir of Qatar, who is directly aware of it, this war will take a minimum of three years for repair work to enable gas operations to be carried out, while to achieve full performance, it is expected to take between three and five years," he said.
He said this when speaking at the Prime Minister's meeting with the Ministry of Transport today.
At the same time, Anwar stressed that although the people are facing cost-of-living pressures, including rising diesel prices, the situation in Malaysia is still under control compared to several other countries that are facing more serious crises.
"Today we are grateful. Some people say, 'What is this, Anwar? In a difficult economic situation, the price of diesel has gone up, telling us to be grateful.
"That is also a problem of understanding. We are grateful that we are still breathing, we are still alive, we are still healthy. Our economy is not as bad as neighbouring countries, we have not yet queued up at petrol stations, we have not yet closed 400 petrol stations, we have not yet had to walk to the office," he said.
The Prime Minister thanked all civil servants, the private sector and the entire community who have cooperated with the government in dealing with the crisis.
"Because of the strength of civil servants, the private sector, the working class, farmers, all working as a team to lift, improve the lives of families, the community and ultimately the country," he said. – April 9, 2026
