Globe expands digital safety training to youth, school leaders in Capiz, Quezon

MANILA, Philippines — Globe is expanding its digital safety education efforts in local communities by training youth leaders and school heads in Capiz and Quezon to help others recognize online threats, protect personal information and use digital technology, including artificial intelligence, responsibly.

Through its Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP), Globe conducted training sessions in Sigma, Capiz, and Tayabas, Quezon, bringing digital citizenship education to youth and education leaders who can pass on online safety practices to their peers, students and communities.

In Sigma, more than 30 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK or Youth Council) officials and recent graduates joined a follow-through session under Globe’s #GoSafeWithGlobe campaign.

The session completed Globe’s DTP training for the municipality’s remaining SK officials and recent graduates. Participants learned how to protect personal information, recognize online threats and practice responsible digital behavior.

They were also encouraged to share the lessons with other young people in their communities.

“As an SK official, I have a responsibility to help create a safer online environment by encouraging others to practice responsible digital behavior,” said Ramel Baclor Flores, SK chairman of Barangay Poblacion Sur in Sigma.

The activity builds on Globe’s earlier DTP engagements with more than 650 youth and student participants in Western Visayas earlier this year.

In Tayabas, Quezon, Globe separately trained 41 school heads from 25 public schools representing municipalities across the province.

The training covered digital citizenship, cybersecurity awareness and the responsible use of artificial intelligence, providing school leaders with tools to guide teachers and students as digital technology becomes increasingly integrated into education.

“Preparing our school leaders for today’s digital landscape is essential to creating safe and responsible learning environments,” said Celedonio Balderas Jr., schools division superintendent of Tayabas City.

Globe director for Western Visayas Jun Juada said youth leaders can influence how their communities use technology and urged participants to share digital safety lessons with their peers.

“By equipping them with practical knowledge on digital safety, we are investing in a generation that can help create a safer and more responsible online environment for everyone,” Juada said.

Globe general manager for South Luzon Adonis Evangelista said school leaders are important partners in promoting responsible digital citizenship among students.

Now on its 10th year, the DTP was launched in 2016 and has reached more than 4,100 schools, engaged 115,394 teachers and provided access to more than two million students and educators nationwide.

Globe said the program continues to evolve in response to emerging online challenges, including cybersecurity risks and the growing use of artificial intelligence.
