GLOBE Telecom Inc. said Friday that it had started putting up battery charging hubs in cell sites in Southern Luzon to increase network typhoon resiliency in the area.
“Connectivity is a vital part of people’s everyday lives. That is why we strive to keep our cell sites operational, especially when disasters strike.” Globe Senior Vice President Joel Agustin said in a statement.
The telco said this would ensure that backup batteries powering its cell sites remained in optimal condition and would maintain reliable mobile service during emergencies and extended power interruptions.
Battery charging hubs are now operational in San Pablo, Laguna, and Batangas, with deployment also under way in Pili, Camarines Sur.
Additional facilities are also being installed in Mindoro, Palawan, Marinduque and Romblon, Globe said.
Each hub is capable of refreshing multiple batteries per week, ensuring a steady supply of fully charged units ready for deployment.
Personnel across all locations were said to have been trained in managing battery recovery and maintenance, detecting issues early and helping prevent service interruptions.
Globe’s share price was unchanged at P1,620 apiece on Friday.
