Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim made it clear that the government is serious about cracking down on corruption and abuse of power and that no one’s getting special treatment, no matter their political ties or past positions.
Speaking at the Madani Rakyat event in Lumut, Anwar said he won’t stand in the way of any Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigations or arrests as long as the people involved are actually guilty.
“Go ahead and arrest anyone whether they’re from the Unity Government, the opposition, or even retired. If they really stole, arrest them.”
He didn’t hold back, pointing out that some former ministers involved in billion-ringgit scandals are now trying to play the sympathy card by bringing up their age or past status.
“Some say, ‘pity us, we’re old.’ Sure, I sympathise, but if you took public money, you have to give it back,” he added.

Anwar also emphasised that the government is sticking to clean governance and transparency including putting an end to handing out projects without open tenders.
“I just want to recover what was stolen from the country. Let’s all work together to do things right,” he said.
“You insulted me, jailed me, beat me and now I’m Prime Minister. I’ve forgiven all that. But if you stole from the people, that’s different. You must return it.”
