Go backs Tesda programs to boost employment opportunities

SEN. Bong Go has renewed his support for technical-vocational education and skills training, saying such programs can help Filipinos secure jobs and improve their economic prospects.

Go made the statement during the graduation ceremony for Beverage Products Development Level IV trainees in Makati City last Monday.

“Education and skills training provide a pathway to success, especially in industries like the Business Process Outsourcing sector where demand for skilled professionals continues to grow,” Go said in a message.

He thanked the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) and its partner institutions for providing scholars with skills and competencies needed to find stable employment.

“Through Tesda and other training institutions, we have already helped many people secure employment and gain the opportunity to improve their lives,” Go said.

Go has supported measures aimed at expanding access to education and providing assistance to students and disadvantaged learners.

He is among the authors and co-sponsors of Republic Act (RA) 12077, or the Student Loan Payment Moratorium During Disasters and Emergencies Act, which grants loan relief to student borrowers during calamities and emergencies.

He also co-authored and co-sponsored RA 11510, or the Alternative Learning System Act, which seeks to provide education opportunities to out-of-school youth and other disadvantaged learners.

Go has likewise filed Senate Bill 2115, which seeks to institutionalize technical and vocational education, and training and livelihood programs, particularly for rehabilitated drug dependents. The measure aims to provide beneficiaries with employment-oriented skills and support their productive reintegration into society.

During the Makati event, Go’s Malasakit Team distributed food packs, vitamins, snacks, shirts, basketballs and volleyballs to the 50 scholars.
