Go tells DOH to hire more health workers

SEN. Bong Go urged the Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday to fill thousands of vacant positions for government health workers.

He said stable jobs, competitive compensation and better working conditions could encourage more Filipino health care professionals to build their careers at home.

”These are the unfilled positions of almost 100,000 positions in the DOH; more than 9,000 positions remain unfilled. Hopefully, this will also be addressed,” said Go, former chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, and its current vice chairman.

He stressed that investments in hospitals, health centers and other medical facilities must be matched by sufficient personnel, noting that without enough health professionals, government health facilities cannot fully deliver services.

Go renewed his call to ensure that health care workers receive the compensation and benefits due to them, citing unsettled issues on unpaid Health Emergency Allowances for qualified workers who served during the Covid-19 pandemic.
