General Operations Force raids illegal plastic waste processing site in Kulim, arresting seven and seizing machinery worth over RM20 million.
KULIM: The General Operations Force arrested seven men during a raid on a premises suspected of illegal plastic waste processing.
Its Northern Brigade commander, SAC Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh, said the suspects included a local man believed to be the caretaker.
Four Bangladeshi and two Nepalese nationals, believed to be workers, were also detained.
The raid was conducted by the GOF’s 18th Battalion Intelligence Branch with the Kulim Department of Environment.
Inspections found the premises had installed and operated plastic processing facilities without DOE approval.
The raiding team discovered large stockpiles of both processed and unprocessed plastic.
Various processing machines and three forklifts were seized, with the total value estimated at over RM20 million.
Initial investigations found the premises had been operating for more than nine years.
Plastic waste materials were sourced from the Klang Valley for processing at the site.
The processed plastic pellets were subsequently exported overseas.
The 35-year-old local man is being investigated for employing illegal immigrants.
The six foreign nationals are being investigated under immigration regulations.
“The case has been handed over to the Kulim DOE for investigation,” said Balveer Singh.
The DOE will probe the failure to submit an environmental impact report for the activities.
