The moment I hold my newborn for the first time is indescribable. Those early weeks are all about getting to know each other. My baby’s tiny fingers gripping mine, the way their eyes slowly start to focus on my face, and those first sleepy smiles are all precious.
During this time, skin-to-skin contact was incredibly beneficial. It helps regulate my baby's heartbeat and temperature while promoting bonding. I loved those moments when I reminisced the time skin-to skin with my son. I established some routines but remain flexible to take care of my emotional health and speed up my recovery process.
As my baby grows, he becomes more aware of his surroundings. This was when he started to recognize faces and respond to sounds. One joyful experience was watching him discover his hands and feet. His laughter filled the room as he realized he could make sounds and interact with toys. I knew that sensory stimulation was crucial for brain development. I introduced a variety of textures and sounds through soft toys and gentle music.

The mobility phase was around 7 to 9 months, my baby started to crawl, leading to many joyful moments as he explored his environment. Baby-proofing became essential as curiosity led him to every corner of the house. His babbling started to sound more like words, "Ibu" or "Ayah" was a heartwarming milestone. I admitted my son's first word was “Ayah” and I as a mother, felt unfair because I was thinking he should mention “Ibu” first! (*Oh, my..my emotion hit me hard) However, no matter what was your baby's first word, you should celebrate his incredible milestone! Please encourage mobility with safe spaces and plenty of floor time. Interactive play is vital for both physical and cognitive development.
The first birthday often coincides with those tentative first steps. The independence and exploration phase watching my baby take its first steps was a proud and emotional moment. The joy on his face as he moved independently was unforgettable. We clapped and encouraged him step by step by providing sturdy walking toys for him to hold onto as he practiced walking.

My child's vocabulary expanded rapidly during the 13-18 month period. Each new word he learned was a cause for celebration. He started to understand simple instructions and could express his needs more clearly. It's a wonderful time for reading together, as books have become a source of both comfort and learning. We as parents always remind ourselves to speak in good manners because we notice our son really fast when mimicking our behaviors. I think this is a crucial tip for parents out there to be good manners because your children are copying you! In addition, do not forget to talk to your child constantly. Describe your actions, names of objects, and read regularly. This exposure to language is crucial for their development.
As my child approached his second birthday, he became more independent and started to assert his personality. This period can be challenging with the onset of tantrums, but it's also filled with moments of joy as they show affection and play imaginatively. We taught emotional regulations by acknowledging my son's feelings and offering comfort. Encouraged imaginative play, which was essential for emotional and social development. Surely, this process sometimes takes your patience to its limit. However, I believe this process is working to educate your child and you as parents.

The first two years of your child’s life are an incredible journey filled with growth, discovery, and joy. Every milestone, no matter how small, is a testament to their development. By nurturing their needs, providing a stimulating environment, and showering them with love, you lay a strong foundation for their future.
Remember, every child is unique. Embrace the challenges and cherish the joyous moments. Parenthood is a learning experience for both you and your child, and the memories you create together will last a lifetime.
