Kota Kinabalu: Thousands of Sabahan Christians joined their global counterparts in observing Good Friday.
Churches across the state were filled to capacity as believers attended mass services to commemorate the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The Easter Triduum, which began with Holy Thursday, followed by Good Friday and culminating in Holy Saturday, also known as the Easter Vigil, marks the end of the Lenten season.
This 40-day period of fasting, prayer, and almsgiving commences on Ash Wednesday and is a significant time in the Christian calendar.

Read more The Good Friday service, held in two sessions at 3 pm and 6 pm, was a solemn occasion.
The liturgy comprised the Liturgy of the Word, followed by Solemn Intercessions, Veneration of the Cross, and a Communion service with hosts consecrated on Holy Thursday.
In stark contrast to the previous years marked by the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s Good Friday saw fewer restrictions, allowing many more believers to participate in the holy mass.
Despite the relaxed measures, some of the elderly and the sick were seen taking precautions by wearing face masks, although it was not compulsory.
Good Friday, a public holiday in Sabah, as a tradition, Christians/Roman Catholic faithful attend the service.
