MANILA, Philippines — “Good luck.”
This was Malacañang’s comment upon learning of Vice President Sara Duterte’s aspiration for the presidency in 2028.
“Good luck, that’s all we can say,” Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a briefing on Wednesday.
The official added that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was able to watch Duterte’s announcement, including the part where she expressed regret over running with him in the 2022 national polls and apologized to the Filipino public for her hand in catapulting Marcos to the highest elected post.
The chief executive, Castro said, did not give any further reaction.
The Palace Press Officer, however, asserted that Duterte must not take all the credit.
“She’s asking forgiveness for helping in the campaign? Remember, it was the people who elected President Marcos. Whatever help she gave, she must remember that they helped each other because they were under the UniTeam,” she said in Filipino.
