Google has announced that the Gemini app is now available for Mac users, running as a native MacOS experience for a faster and more integrated way to get help from Google’s AI assistant.

You can download the native Gemini app for MacOS over at gemini.google/mac, and is available to all Mac users as long as you’re running MacOS 15 and up, as well as using a Mac with Apple Silicon; sorry Intel Mac users.

For those who have already installed Gemini on their MacBook, you can quickly open the Gemini app by pressing Option+Space to open the mini chat, or Option+Shift+Space for the full chat experience. You can of course just click on the Gemini icon in the menu bar though, as well as launch the app directly via its icon in the Dock. You can also edit the chat shortcuts in Settings.

Once you’ve got Gemini running, you can give it context about your current screen by clicking ‘Add files and tools’ in the Gemini app and choosing ‘Share window’, then choose the specific window that you want to share. This lets Gemini see what’s on your screen so that it can customise its answers based on this info.

You can also let it read the full page in your browser by going to Privacy & Security in your Mac’s settings and enable Accessibility for Gemini. Other features include image and video generation via Nano Banana and Veo.
