Back in March 29th, a new section 507A was added to the Penal Code (Act 574) for the crime of stalking after the Penal Code (Amendment) Bill 2023 was approved by the Dewan Rakyat.

However, inventive stalkers might use a fake account to pretend to be someone else. In response to that, The Deputy Law & Institutional Reform Minister warns that anyone who stalks someone using a false account may still face legal consequences if the MCMC is able to determine their identity.

According to Ramkarpal Singh, the act must be repeated at least twice and put the victim in a stressful or fearful situation in order for it to be established that it constitutes stalking.

The minister further asserts that the person who granted the order for the stalking to occur can also be held accountable through enforcement action.
