Charlie and the Chocolate Factory brings chocolate, music and theatrical magic to Selangor this December
If you have ever wondered what lies behind Willy Wonka’s mysterious factory doors, this December could be your chance to find out.
Roald Dahl’s beloved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory comes to Malaysia for the first time, bringing its world of chocolate rivers, eccentric characters, Oompa-Loompas, and pure imagination to the stage.
The Broadway musical premieres in Selangor at Jeffrey Cheah Performing Arts Centre from Dec 22 to Jan 10, 2027.
Presented by Broadway International Group and Broadway Asia, in association with Sunway South Quay Sdn Bhd, the production invites audiences of all ages to step into Wonka’s wonderfully unpredictable world.

Welcome to Wonka’s world
Based on Dahl’s much-loved novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory follows young Charlie Bucket after he discovers one of the coveted Golden Tickets.
His prize is a visit to Willy Wonka’s mysterious chocolate factory, where seemingly impossible things become part of an ordinary day.
Expect chocolate rivers, nut-sorting squirrels, mischievous Oompa-Loompas and larger-than-life characters, all brought together through music, elaborate visuals and theatrical effects.
This new global touring production also uses hologauze 3D technology and illusion-based stage effects to make Wonka’s factory feel even more fantastical.
Renowned Las Vegas magic and illusion designer Tim Clothier joins the creative team, creating new stage wizardry for the famously eccentric chocolatier.
From Pure Imagination to Golden Tickets
Fans of the classic 1971 film will have plenty to look forward to, with songs including Pure Imagination, The Candy Man and I’ve Got a Golden Ticket.
The musical also features original music by Grammy and Tony Award winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, whose credits include Hairspray and Mary Poppins Returns.
The production features a book by David Greig, with lyrics by Wittman and Shaiman, alongside.
