SANDAKAN: A government agency officer pleaded not guilty at the Sandakan Special Corruption Court here on Thursday to 14 charges of making false claims totalling about RM15,000.
Nur Izzati Mohd Rudzuan, 37, an Assistant Economic Affairs Officer, entered the plea after the charges were read before Judge Andi Razalijaya A Dadi.
She is accused of submitting false invoices for raw materials, hampers, food and public address (PA) system services that were allegedly not fully provided.
Nine charges were allegedly committed between August and September 2023, while the remaining five were allegedly committed between April and May 2024.
She was charged under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.
If convicted, she faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of at least five times the value of the false claims, or RM10,000, whichever is higher, for each charge.
MACC Deputy Public Prosecutor Rustam Sanip appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer Sharatha Masyaroh John Ridwan Lincon represented Nur Izzati.
The prosecution initially sought RM15,000 bail with an RM8,000 deposit and one surety.
The defence requested lower bail, citing Nur Izzati’s three school-going children and her responsibility to support her mother.
The court granted bail of RM10,000 with a RM5,000 deposit and one local surety.
Nur Izzati must surrender her passport, if any, and report to the nearest MACC office as required.
Her trial is set for Feb 1 to 5, 2027, while case management is scheduled for Nov 5, 2026.
