Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that the government has set up a special team to address the issue of rising cost of living among Malaysians. Helmed by several senior ministers, it is dubbed Jihad Tangani Inflasi.
According to the prime minister, the team will be responsible for drafting strategies and coordinating efforts in resolving issues concerning inflation. In doing this, it will also collect relevant information from ministries, agencies, as well as the public.
Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri further said that the special team was formed to effectively and efficiently tackle the challenges of rising costs of living, brought on by climate change and geopolitical uncertainties. Occurrences such as the Russia-Ukraine crisis have affected the market prices of food commodities, as well as fuel, he stated.

“The special team functions the same as the previous team handling the Covid-19 pandemic, where meetings will be held twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays,” Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri also clarified, adding that a press conference will be held after every meeting to explain the various issues raised by the people.
The special team will be chaired by Communications and Multimedia Minister, Tan Sri Annuar Musa. He will also be assisted by the following officials:
- Finance Minister, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz
- Agriculture and Food Industries Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee
- Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi
- Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy), Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed
- Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali
Ultimately, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri emphasised that the government is constantly working towards minimising the effects of the global rise in inflation on the Malaysian Family.
