The government is exploring the use of MyKad and the MyKasih system for targeted diesel subsidies, aiming to streamline delivery and reduce leakages.
PUTRAJAYA: The government will study suitable mechanisms to leverage the MyKasih system and MyKad for the distribution of subsidies, including diesel, to Malaysians, said MADANI Government spokesperson Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
Fahmi, who is also the Communications Minister, stated that the proposal will be refined by the Ministry of Finance before being finalised at the Cabinet level and formally announced.
He explained that the Cabinet meeting discussed follow-up measures from the National Economic Action Council, including this proposal recently announced by Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
The approach aims to streamline subsidy delivery and reduce leakages, but will require careful assessment of logistics, usability and system readiness nationwide.
Amir Hamzah had previously noted the success of the BUDI95 programme for RON95 petrol, which uses MyKad in a more structured manner.
He said the use of MyKad under BUDI95 has helped to curb leakages while achieving cost savings without significantly altering consumer purchasing behaviour.
