PUTRAJAYA: The government has agreed to re-table a constitutional amendment bill covering the separation of the Attorney General and Public Prosecutor roles and a limit on the Prime Minister’s tenure.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said (pic) announced the move for the next parliamentary sitting.
This forms part of Phase II of the MADANI Accountability Framework, running from May to August 2026.
The agenda focuses on strengthening integrity, human rights, and the justice system.
Key initiatives for this phase include drafting a Malaysian Ombudsman Bill and a Freedom of Information Act.
Azalina said these would be tabled at the next parliamentary session.
An institutional reform scheduled for April is the establishment of an Anti-Bullying Tribunal.
“It is an important step in strengthening protection for victims and addressing bullying issues more comprehensively,” she stated in a Facebook post.
These measures reflect the government’s commitment to building a more transparent and accountable system.
According to the official Parliament calendar, the Dewan Rakyat sitting is expected from June 22 to July 16.
