PUTRAJAYA: The government has agreed to standardise application procedures and technical requirements for renovation works involving residential and commercial premises nationwide.
The Ministry of Housing and Local Government said the National Council for Local Government approved the guidelines at its 87th meeting today.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof chaired the meeting, which was also attended by Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.
The ministry stated the guidelines clarify for building owners the work scope permitted without compromising structural safety, natural ventilation, and urban planning harmony.
The MNKT meeting serves as a forum for formulating policies and legislation related to local government matters between federal and state governments.
Issues discussed will be brought to the attention of state governments before official implementation at the local authority level nationwide.
The meeting also agreed to a community service order for littering offences as an educational and behavioural correction approach.
Its implementation aims to increase urban cleanliness and instil a sense of responsibility to maintain public environment cleanliness.
The KPKT called for stronger enforcement at the local government level to ensure policies and guidelines are implemented consistently and effectively.
