Kota Kinabalu: The government need to diversify skills training programmes for Sabahans to place them in various industrial sectors to reduce dependence on foreign workers.
Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) Sabah Supreme Council Member, Muariffidin Abdul Malek Chua (pic) said new sectors covering mineral resources, oil exploration and the tourism industry are growing and needed trained workers.
“The development of various industrial sectors in the post-pandemic economic recovery phase requires manpower and this need should be met by prioritising the involvement of local workers,” he said during a career programme with Mentari Management Bhd, an affiliate of Mentari Corporation that offers various fields of employment for the local workforce.
Also present were Star vice-president Dr Paul Porodong and the party’s Supreme Council member Ts Ir Jovilis Majami.
Muariffidin welcomed the call by Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M Saravanan to give priority to local workers in various sectors as the dependence on foreign workers could weaken the country’s economy.
He called on the people of Sabah to be brave to step forward to occupy the various employment sectors because such move will improve the local economy.
