Kuala Lumpur: The government has vowed to take stern action against television stations that violate guidelines, communications minister Fahmi Fadzil says.

He said any failure to comply with these guidelines could result in “consequences”. “I assure you that the government will take strict action,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama yesterday.

AdvertisementFahmi, the government spokesman, was asked to comment on the controversy over a cross-dresser who had attended a music awards show broadcast live on Sunday.

Fahmi said the television station was aware of the guidelines.
