KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government will allocate RM60 million for Malaysia's cybersecurity agency to develop a 5G cybersecurity testing framework and foster local expertise in 5G technology to enhance the nation's preparedness for facing cyber threats.

The finance minister said to further promote 5G adoption, the government is increasing collaborative efforts with telecommunication companies, aiming to extend the benefits of 5G to a broader user and business base.

He said that as of September 2023, Digital Nasional Berhad has successfully rolled out a 5G network, providing coverage in densely populated areas at a rate of 70.2%.

As part of the government's commitment, Anwar said the nation is on track to achieving approximately 80% coverage in populated areas by the end of this year.

"This milestone enables the public to experience the high-quality 5G services offered by all telecommunications providers," he said when tabling Budget 2024 in Parliament this afternoon. – October 13, 2023
