Govt allocates RM600 million to expand Madani Rahmah sales nationwide

THE government has significantly scaled up its support for the Madani Rahmah Sales Programme (PJRM), earmarking RM600 million for the wider Payung Rahmah initiative in 2025.

In response to a parliamentary question from Wong Shu Qi (Kluang) on Tuesday, the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali told the Dewan Rakyat that: “Of this, RM552 million will be channelled directly into PJRM, which aims to provide affordable essential goods to communities across the country.”

Armizan confirmed that the expanded allocation—announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on 23 July—will enable the government to hold 20,000 PJRM sessions by year-end.

These will span all 222 parliamentary constituencies, over 600 state assembly areas and 40 zones within the Federal Territories.

The Minister described PJRM as “a crucial intervention mechanism”, offering goods at prices 10 to 30 per cent lower than market rates to help ease the burden of living costs.

The expanded budget will support several improvements to the programme’s delivery. PJRM sessions will be held more frequently, up from the initial target of 15,360 events to 20,000 across Malaysia.

The range of goods will also be widened to suit local and seasonal needs, including fresh produce through PJRM@Pasar, school and student necessities via PJRM\@Kampus, and festive items.

Additionally, the programme will adopt more diverse models of distribution—taking place not only within shop premises, but also outdoors, at premium locations and via mobile units.

The initiative will continue to involve strategic partners under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme to ensure that targeted groups are able to purchase essential goods at lower prices using their entitlements.

“As of 31 July 2025, a total of 13,060 PJRM sessions have been conducted nationwide, generating 15,626,464 transactions and delivering direct benefit to the rakyat,” the Minister reported.

He reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to affordable access to daily necessities, noting that PJRM remains central to the Madani government’s vision of inclusive growth and well-targeted social support. - August 12, 2025
