THE government has allocated RM8.4 million for the provision of Jalur Gemilang flag badges to 5.14 million students nationwide, including those enrolled in public schools, matriculation colleges, Form Six colleges, and teacher training institutes (IPGs).
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, in a written response in the Dewan Rakyat, said each student will receive two badges free of charge as part of a national initiative to instil patriotism and love for the country from school-going age.
“This allocation was disbursed to all state education departments and relevant institutions in February 2025, with quantities tailored according to the number of registered students,” she stated.
She added that procurement was handled by state education departments, district education offices, and institutions via the ePerolehan system through open tender or quotation.
“To expedite supply and encourage wider participation of qualified vendors, zonal procurement was also permitted, involving a total of 91 suppliers nationwide in producing the badges,” she said.
Fadhlina was responding to a question from Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman (PAS–Kuala Krai) regarding the government’s expenditure on Jalur Gemilang badges for students under the Ministry of Education.
On concerns about student safety and damage to school uniforms, Fadhlina noted that the ministry had issued official guidelines on badge placement but allowed parents to provide extra badges made of suitable materials and identical dimensions.
“The ministry will continue to monitor the flexible implementation of badge usage across all levels of education,” she said.
“This initiative is intended to instil patriotism and nurture national pride among the Madani Generation.”
As of 21 April, all students in government schools are required to wear the Jalur Gemilang badge as part of their uniforms, following a directive issued on 24 March by the Director-General of Education, Azman Adnan.
The circular mandates that the badge, measuring 5cm by 2.5cm, be worn on the right chest of the school uniform as a means of cultivating patriotism and national resilience. - August 12, 2025
