KUALA LUMPUR – Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan has appointed Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal as the Social Security Organisation’s (Socso) new chairman, effective October 4.
Subahan, 57, replaces Prof Tan Sri Mohamed Haniffa Abdullah, who held the position for over two years and three months prior to being appointed as a senator on September 26.
At present, Subahan continues to contribute to the national sports arena in the fields of football and hockey.
In addition to sitting on the board of the Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia, he is also the president of the Malaysian Hockey Confederation and PJ City Football Club.
He was also the president of the Selangor Football Club until July 2018.
Subahan holds a degree in accounting specialising in finance from the University of Southern Illinois in the US.
He is also commissioned with the Certificate of Marine Cargo Technical Claims and Certificate of Liability Insurance by The Malaysian Insurance Institute.
In a statement, Saravanan said Subahan’s appointment is relevant as he is knowledgeable in various industries, including real estate, food and beverage, media, banking, and insurance.
“Subahan’s experience, knowledge, and professionalism are assets that will give a big leap for Socso in continuing the agenda of expanding social security protection comprehensively without marginalising any Malaysian, which is in line with the ‘from womb to tomb’ concept.
“I am also confident that his leadership in Socso will further improve the level of governance, integrity, and service quality of this agency to consumers and Malaysians, especially during this post-pandemic era,” he added.
Additionally, Saravanan expressed his gratitude to Haniffa for his contributions and service as the former Socso chairman for 27 months, especially his role in helping Malaysians face the impact of Covid-19. – The Vibes, October 6, 2022
