MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Agriculture imposed a temporary ban on the importation of animals susceptible to Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and their products and by-products from at least 23 countries.
The ban covers Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Chad, Comoros, Cote d' Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Eritrea, Eswatini, Gambia, Guinea, Jordan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Sudan,
Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Vietnam, and Zambia.
Under Department Circular 46 signed by Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. on Aug. 28, 2026 and posted on the DA website on Thursday, the Philippines will prohibit the entry of live swine, cattle, water buffaloes and other FMD-susceptible animals, as well as fresh skeletal muscle meat, casings, tallow, hooves, and horns.
The ban was imposed following official laboratory-confirmed FMD outbreak reports submitted to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH).
