KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysians will have front-row access to the FIFA World Cup 2026 as the government confirms Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and Unifi TV as official broadcasters. A RM24 million allocation from the government, supplemented by private sector partnerships, aims to make the tournament accessible, legal, and inclusive.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the initiative reflects the Madani government’s commitment to delivering high-quality coverage across multiple platforms.
“The government is committed to ensuring that all Malaysians can enjoy the FIFA World Cup 2026 in an inclusive, legitimate and comprehensive manner,” he said.
He added: “For this purpose, the government has decided to establish collaboration with the private sector to ensure high-quality broadcasting and wide reach.”
Fans will be able to follow the action on free-to-air broadcasting via MYTV, as well as on OTT platforms RTM Klik and Unifi TV, allowing flexible access on both television and digital devices.
“The FIFA World Cup 2026 will be broadcast across multiple platforms, including free-to-air via MYTV, as well as OTT platforms through RTM Klik and Unifi TV,” Fahmi confirmed.
Unifi TV will stream all 104 matches live, while RTM will air the majority either live or on a delayed schedule to provide additional viewing options.
“To ensure comprehensive access for viewers nationwide, full coverage of all 104 matches will be broadcast live on Unifi TV. Meanwhile, RTM will air the majority of matches either live or on a delayed basis,” he said.
The tournament coverage will also include studio programming under the Grandstand banner, produced at Angkasapuri Kota Media. Programming will be primarily in Malay with selected English segments, alongside updates on Selamat Pagi Malaysia.
In addition, the government plans to host public viewing events at selected locations across the country to further engage fans.
“In addition, public viewing events will be organised at selected locations in a modest manner to enhance fan engagement,” Fahmi said.
Key sponsors are currently being finalised, with announcements expected soon.
The government also emphasised the need for strict adherence to anti-piracy regulations during the tournament.
“All parties are urged to act responsibly, and enforcement actions will continue to be strengthened against any violations,” he added.
Ultimately, the initiative aims to use football to foster unity and togetherness among Malaysians.
“The government hopes that the FIFA World Cup 2026 will unite the people through the spirit of sport and togetherness,” Fahmi concluded. - May 6, 2026
