THE government is weighing the formation of a dedicated Ministry of Law as part of broader efforts to enhance the country’s legal institutions and strengthen regional cooperation within ASEAN.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the proposal, currently under active consideration, is aimed at reinforcing Malaysia’s legal architecture and ensuring greater cohesion within the national legal ecosystem.
“In the spirit of legal empowerment, Malaysia is exploring the best way forward to strengthen its legal framework. We are considering the establishment of a specific Ministry of Law, which would not only bring more synergy to our domestic legal environment but also enhance regional cooperation in upholding the rule of law,” Anwar said.
He was speaking at the opening of the ASEAN Law Forum 2025 in Kuala Lumpur. Also present was Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
Anwar emphasised that the legal system must remain inclusive and benefit individuals across all segments of society, regardless of background. - August 21, 2025
