The government has announced that it will no longer provide toll exemptions for festive occasions, starting this year.
Minister of Works Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the cabinet had decided to adopt a more targeted approach in line with the government’s broader policy of implementing targeted subsidies. Speaking to reporters at the opening of Section 2 of the West Coast Expressway (WCE) today, he confirmed that the upcoming Chinese New Year would not feature free tolls.
He added that while any future considerations would be announced if applicable, the free toll initiatives provided during festive seasons in 2024 marked the final year of such exemptions.
Nanta explained that the decision aligns with the government’s effort to realign subsidies towards a more targeted framework, details of which would be shared in due course.
The clarification came in response to questions regarding the possibility of free tolls during the upcoming Chinese New Year.
