The Union Government has announced that the anti-dumping duty on aluminum foil imports from China, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia will be extended till December 15.

The Finance Ministry, in its amended notification No. 51/2021-Customs (ADD), dated September 16, 2021, added a new clause stating that the anti-dumping duty will remain in effect until December 15, regardless of anything stated in the previous notification.

The amendment was issued in accordance with the Customs Tariff (Identification, Assessment and Collection of Anti-Dumping Duty on Dumped Articles and for Determination of Injury) Rules, 1995, as well as Section 9A of the Customs Tariff Act, 1975.

The decision comes after the anti-dumping measure’s continuing Sunset Review, which covers imports of “aluminium foil 80 micron and below" that come from or are exported from China, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. On September 29, 2025, the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) began the evaluation to determine whether the duty should remain in place.

On April 28, the trade organisation conducted an oral hearing as part of the review process, giving interested parties a chance to voice their opinions over the duty continuation.

The latest extension promises that the levy will continue to function while the review procedure is completed and a decision about the measure’s future is made.

Hindalco Industries and SRF Altech were among the companies that sought for this measure.
