Govt finalising targeted RON95 fuel subsidy framework ahead of month-end rollout

THE Government is in the final stages of formulating the eligibility requirements and implementation methods for the targeted RON95 fuel subsidy scheme, which is expected to be launched by the end of the month, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan told the Dewan Negara on Monday.

He assured that the targeted subsidy mechanism would be carefully structured to ensure that “the majority of eligible citizens are not affected.”

Responding to a supplementary question from Senator Rose Suryati Alang during question time, Amir Hamzah said the government was also working with petrol station operators to ensure MyKad-enabled payments can be made at fuel pumps once the scheme is implemented.

“The government is also working with petrol station operators to ensure the MyKad payment system can be used at pumps once the RON95 subsidy is rolled out at the end of this month,” he said.

Amir Hamzah, who also holds the portfolio of Economy Minister, noted that data from the Central Database Hub (PADU) would be used to verify eligibility, ensuring that subsidies are channelled to those who genuinely qualify.

“We will announce and implement this at the end of the month with assurance that eligible citizens will receive the subsidies as intended,” he added. - Sept 8, 2025
