LOCAL government units (LGUs) and national agencies should consider shifting to micro data centers to improve service delivery and IT system management, an industry expert said during the launch of Canovate Micro Data Center in Makati City on Tuesday evening, May 5.
Paul Jason Lapus, said micro data centers offer a standardized, all-in-one solution that enables faster, more efficient implementation of digital infrastructure.
“Micro data center, such as Canovate, is something that they need to look at... it empowers them to deliver services and allows them to manage systems better,” Lapus said.
He said adopting the technology could help government systems become more responsive, particularly in delivering frontline and digital services across multiple locations.
Lapus said micro data centers provide advantages in cost efficiency, simplified management, and rapid deployment, which are critical in public sector operations.
“In terms of cost, standardized... in terms of management, standardized... and at the end of the day, very quick, faster implementation, the LGU gets the benefit,” he said.
He added that the shift is particularly relevant in the Philippines, where government operations are spread across islands and require flexible and scalable infrastructure.
Lapus said micro data centers are designed as roll-in systems that can run on existing power and be deployed without complex infrastructure requirements.
“They are all-in-one systems... something that you can roll in much quicker and much faster,” he said.
Moreover, he said the technology can also support operations in rural and off-grid areas, where traditional data centers are difficult to maintain.
“Micro data centers are something that can be delivered as a whole system, plugged in, and, at the end of the day, you get the benefit,” Lapus said.
Lapus added that built-in features such as power protection, cooling, fire safety, and security allow continuous operations even during power interruptions, making them a practical option for government agencies seeking to modernize their IT infrastructure nationwide.
The Canovate micro data center showcased during the launch integrates key infrastructure components into a single rack-based system, including uninterruptible power supply (UPS), precision cooling, intelligent monitoring, and physical security controls.
Company representatives said the solution is designed for rapid deployment, enabling organizations to install operational IT infrastructure in a significantly shorter timeframe compared to traditional data center builds.
They added that the system supports scalability, enabling agencies to expand capacity as demand grows without requiring major facility upgrades.
Canovate also highlighted that its micro data center solutions are designed to support edge computing environments, which are increasingly used by organizations that require real-time data processing and localized system control.
The company said these features position micro data centers as a practical option for both urban and remote deployments, particularly in countries with geographically distributed operations, such as the Philippines.
